Practicing Divorce & Family Law in New Jersey
Jeffrey N. Kasten, Esq. first worked with the Law Offices of Charny, Karpousis, Altieri & Donoian, P.A. as a third year law student. A law clerk at the time, he worked side-by-side with the attorneys and their clients in all matters of family law, including litigation and mediation.
In September 2015, Jeff joined the firm on a full-time basis after a one-year law clerkship to the Honorable Angelo DiCamillo, J.T.C., New Jersey Superior Court, Family Part, for whom he drafted written opinions and motion decisions in cases involving child abuse, adoption, domestic violence and non-dissolution. He was also a judicial intern to the Hon. DiCamillo while in law school, compiling research and preparing extensive legal memoranda. His work involved detailing New Jersey legal standards and case law for use by the Court in presiding over child abuse and neglect matters. Before attending law school, Jeff was a summer intern for Congressman Robert E. Andrews, 1st District of New Jersey. He drafted policy memoranda and worked closely with various government agencies to expedite claims for relief by constituents.
A graduate of Rutgers University School of Law, Jeff received his Juris Doctor degree in 2014 and is admitted to practice law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. While attending school, he was an articles editor with the Rutgers Law Journal and vice president of the Rutgers Health Law Society. Jeff’s passion for the area of family law is not new. He spent 15 months working for the Rutgers Law Domestic Violence Pro Bono Project, counseling victims through all facets of seeking final restraining orders in the Superior Court of New Jersey. Jeff received his Bachelor of Arts with honors from Rutgers University – Camden, majoring in English Literature, and was the Rutgers Camden Democratic Club Treasurer.
Jeff is committed to being active in the legal community, . He is an associate in the Thomas S. Forkin Family Law Inn of Court as well as member of the Burlington and Camden County Bar Associations, where he is part of the Camden County Young Lawyers Division. Stepping outside the area of law, he is part of the South Jersey Young Professionals Association and is president of the Business Networking International (BNI)-Berlin, New Jersey Chapter. Jeff also recognizes the value of education and sharing his experience with others at the start of their careers. Most recently, he teamed up with firm partner Karen Rose Karpousis to share an in depth view of practicing family law. Coordinated and hosted by the Family Law Society at the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law, current law students took part in the interactive discussion, which touched on a broad array of topics, including course selection, clerkships and career paths. Yet it wasn’t only a dialogue of practical advice. Jeff spoke on the emotional aspects of family law and how to handle its very personal nature.
A true native and long-standing member of the South Jersey community, Jeff was born and raised in Collingswood and now resides with his wife, Samantha, and dog, Charlie, in Oaklyn. When not working, he is an avid Philadelphia sports fan who enjoys coaching youth sports and spending time with his family and friends.
